Recover an HP EliteBook 840 G10 with HP Sure Recover
Difficulty: Beginner · Time: 30-90 min per laptop
BIOS-embedded recovery. Re-downloads Windows directly from HP. Works even with a totally wiped disk.
📝 This guide is an outline. The full step-by-step is being written. The procedure below mirrors the gold-standard MDT guide — adapt the model-specific bits.
Outline
- In BIOS (Esc → F10 → Advanced → Secure Platform Management or Endpoint Security), confirm HP Sure Recover = Enabled.
- Restart and immediately press F11 repeatedly.
- Choose HP Sure Recover from the recovery menu.
- Pick Network recovery. The firmware connects to HP's CDN over your wired connection (Wi-Fi works on G11+ if pre-configured).
- Sure Recover downloads the factory Windows 11 image (~6 GB) and writes it to the SSD.
- The laptop reboots into Windows 11 OOBE.
Custom corporate image instead of HP factory image:
- Install HP Manageability Integration Kit (MIK) on your SCCM/Intune server.
- Use HP MIK to build a custom Sure Recover image referencing your captured WIM hosted on your own HTTPS server.
- Push the Sure Recover policy via BCU or MIK to enrolled HP devices.

- Deploy Windows 11 24H2 on HP EliteBook 840 G10 via Bootable USB — every single-laptop USB deployment follows this same shape, and includes the Intel VMD driver workaround if this model has VMD enabled.
